About Us

The Davis Agency

Founded by Bob and Danielle Davis, The Davis Agency has proudly represented real estate buyers, sellers, and renters since 1978. Originally housed in a small office located next to the Davis' home in Seawall, you'll now find The Davis Agency office at its high-visibility location on Main Street in Southwest Harbor. The agency serves buyers and sellers beyond Southwest Harbor and Mount Desert Island, however, reaching outward to all of Hancock, Washington and Waldo Counties and ultimately to all of the State of Maine.

The Davis Agency team includes a diverse array of licensed real estate brokers, rental agents and office staff, with each member offering something unique to the company. When you reach out to any one of them you'll find them knowledgeable and respectful, friendly and responsive, communicative and thorough. It's that type of service which gives The Davis Agency its highly-valued reputation and what brings clients and customers back year after year.

Danielle was born in Belgium to a Belgian mother and a French father. She met her husband, Bob Davis, in Paris. They married then moved to Southwest Harbor in 1963. Danielle is blessed with two grown children and five beautiful grandchildren. In 1995 she became a US citizen, along with retaining her French citizenship.

In 1978 with husband Bob's urging and with his unwavering support, Danielle started in the real estate business. The Davis Agency was originally run from an office constructed near their home in Seawall. The office building housed their real estate and rental business, and Bob's building business.

In 1992 The Davis Agency moved to its present location at 363 Main Street in Southwest Harbor. Bob worked behind the scenes handling the technical side of the business while Danielle functioned as the designated broker of The Davis Agency. She continues to handle all aspects of real estate sales and manages the agency's personnel.

She is proud to have built her business on honesty, hard work and loyalty. Whether buyer, selling or renting, her goal is to have only satisfied clients and customers.

Carol Schaefer, Broker

Carol is a Maine native and can trace her local roots back to the late 1700s when her family first settled in Surry, Maine, near Contention Cove. She grew up in Franklin and attended local schools, including The University of Maine at Orono and Colby College in Waterville.

In 2001 she transitioned from teaching 4th graders to assisting clients and customers in the real estate market. (Since patience and thoroughness are required in real estate, she often says that her degree in elementary education prepared her well for her current career!) Carol started first as a vacation rental agent in a very busy local firm, then in 2011 brought this expertise to The Davis Agency when she joined their real estate staff. It didn't take long for her to realize that she'd found her niche.

With 20+ years of quality experience in both the real estate sales and rental markets, Carol brings professionalism, excellent communication skills and market expertise to your next real estate transaction. Buyers and sellers alike benefit from her ability to accurately price properties, to negotiate successfully on their behalf, and to thoughtfully and thoroughly complete all transactions with her clients' and customers' satisfaction as her highest goal.

Rental property owners benefit as well, for Carol co-owns and manages all aspects of nine vacation rental properties of her own. She assists The Davis Agency rental staff in their day to day operations. Not only can she help you in buying or selling a vacation rental property, she can guide you in pricing it and readying it for promotion.

Carol lives in Southwest Harbor with her partner, Eric, and their dog, Tucker. She has three grown children, all married or soon to be, and as of 2022, has two grandchildren. When not hiking in Acadia with her dog, she enjoys baking celebratory cakes for friends and family, entertaining, and travel.

Marc Chalfoun, Broker

Call Marc (207-266-8017) or Email Marc

Marc Chalfoun began his real estate career in 2003, a few years after moving to Mount Desert Island. Marc is enthusiastic about the diverse real estate market here. "MDI has seven major communities, each has its own unique characteristic and feel. There is something for everyone on the Island. The variety keeps things interesting."

His professional goal of providing a helping hand through the process of purchasing a home, which he feels can, at times, be intimidating, was realized with his first sale. He sold an oceanfront property to an out-of-state couple with a young child. "I just knew from dealing with them that it was a perfect fit with lots of potential. I liked being part of helping a family make memories for years to come."

Marc has an Engineering degree from the University of Maine. During his time here he has built, and manages over 20 vacation and year round rentals on the island. He has created several subdivisions in the process. This knowledge is invaluable to buyers thinking of making an investment on MDI. He is a wealth of information on the ins and outs of both being a landlord and marketing a vacation rental, to buying or building your dream home.

When Marc is not working, he enjoys hiking in the park, cooking, and frequenting the many great restaurants the island has to offer with his wife Victoria, and young sons William and Alex.
