Seagull In Flight

Letter From Richard and Caroline Chick

June  30, 2009

Dear Class of 1959, Pemetic High School:

You cannot imagine how thrilled we were when Donna Michard called to invite us to attend your 50th Class Reunion in
Southwest Harbor.  Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect to see so many of you all at one time again.  Don’t let anyone ever tell you that miracles never happen!

Even though we decided to leave Pemetic and seek other areas of employment, you
all remained in our hearts and minds over the years to follow.  My years at Pemetic were
some of the best years of my life and I missed you all more than you could ever know.  I
was thrilled to be part of your lives to help mold your educational experience and I loved
and enjoyed my teaching career during my years at Pemetic.

In June of 1957 Carrie and I were married after my graduation from
Business College. We
moved to Southwest Harbor in late August.  Friday before Labor Day I reported to Mr.
Furtwengler’s office and told him I was ready to get my classroom and plans organized.
He asked me if I thought I would have  things ready by Tuesday when classes started.  I assured him I would be and I succeeded.  I think he was a little nervous but glad I had arrived.  During our years there we were fortunate to have a very warm and friendly relationship with both Mr. & Mrs. Furtwengler as they encouraged and supported us.  While there our children Michael, Richard and Karen were born.  We had another son, Jeffrey, born in 1965.

On
June 22, 2009 Carrie and I celebrated our 52 wedding anniversary. Friday, June  27,
we joined you all as you celebrated your 5oth class reunion. We thank you for the
opportunity to share in your special event.  It  was exciting to see you all and hear about
your life journeys.  Our accommodations  and reception were marvelous as we were
pampered by very special people who were part of our lives while living in Southwest
Harbor.  In all sincerity we are so proud of all of you and the special men and women
you have become.

As you can see, dreams can come true !

Fondly,

Richard and Caroline Chick

A "Special Thanks" to Donna for being instrumental in bringing us back together.
